FAIRY QUEEN - PURCELL

The new production of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen launched in 1995 by the English National Opera (ENO) was received with great enthusiasm by both the public and musical press. This atmospheric production was prepared by David Pountney, Robert Israel created the stage set, Dunya Ramicova was responsible for costume design and Quinny Sacks was responsible for the choreography of the dance roles as well as the numerous breathtaking ballet scenes. Under the musical direction of Nicholas Kok, the English National Orchestra played a baroque music which was as crystal clear as it was expressively infectious. Next to outstanding performers of the dancing roles such as Puck (Simon Rice) and the Indian boy (Arthur Pita), an entire armada of excellent singers was summoned up such as one seldom experiences together on the baroque opera stage. These included Yvonne Kenny as Titania, Thomas Randle as Oberon and Richard Van Allan as King Theseus. Jonathan Best, with his comic portrayal of the drunken poet, was loved by the audience and praised highly by the press, while other singers like Michael Chance, Mary Hegarthy, Janis Kelly, Marc Le Brocq and Christopher Ross all contributed their talents to produce an unusual musical theatre experience that has been masterfully preserved on this DVD.

The Kdam Eurovision in short also known as the Kdam is the Israeli national preselection of the Eurovision Song Contest. The competition was first introduced in 1981. Since then it has adopted a number of formats but is mostly known for featuring twelve songs performed by twelve different singers. This format was dropped in 1988, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009. In these years, IBA selected the performer first and whoever was chosen performed a number of songs on the show.Until present, Israel was able to win the Eurovision Song Contest three times, but none of the victories thus far have come from Kdam. In 1978 and 1979 the Israeli participant was chosen at the Festival HaZemer VeHaPizmon (Israeli Song Festival) and both winners went on to ultimately win the Song Contest. Dana International was chosen in an internal selection contest.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! "Together We Are One" (often known by the Hebrew title "Ze Hazman" (Hebrew script: , English translation: "It's Time") was the Israeli entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, performed in Hebrew and English by Eddie Butler. This was the first Israeli entry for which the official title did not contain at least some Hebrew. The song is heavily influenced by gospel music, a fact borne out by the presence of a pianist and backing singers with the appearance of gospel singers in the performance. Butler (one of the first African Americans to represent Israel) sings about the need to unite and overcome differences in order to progress as the human race. One verse appears to be delivered to a lover, leading some fans to speculate that the song is intended to be a love song to a woman who already has a family.
