Inspired by true events, this best-selling Israeli novel traces a complex web of love triangles, homoerotic tensions, and family secrets across generations and borders, illuminating diverse facets of life in the Middle East. The uneventful life of a jeweler from Tel Aviv changes abruptly in 2011 after Fareed, a handsome young man from Damascus, crosses illegally into Israel and makes his way to the ancient port city of Jaffa in search of his roots. In his pocket is a piece of a famous blue diamond known as "Sabakh". Intending to return the diamond to its rightful owner, Fareed is soon swept up in Tel Aviv's vibrant gay scene, and a turbulent protest movement. He falls in love with both an Israeli soldier and his boyfriend - the narrator of this book - and reveals the story of his family's past: a tale of forbidden love beginning in the 1930s that connects Fareed and the jeweler.Following Sabakh's winding path, The Diamond Setter ties present-day events to a forgotten time before the establishment of the State of Israel divided the region. Moshe Sakal's poignant mosaic of characters, locales, and cultures encourages us to see the Middle East beyond its violent conflicts.Contains mature themes. 1. Language: English. A man travels to Israel to uncover a diamond's remarkable past in this vivid historical saga from the New York Times best-selling author of The Physician. A diamond cutter and seller from a long, respected line of precious-gem dealers, New Yorker Harry Hopeman is intrigued by the story of the so-called "Jerusalem Diamond", a magnificent yellow jewel rumored to date back to the biblical time of King Solomon. So when he's asked to broker a deal that will return the legendary gemstone to Israel, he eagerly accepts. Arriving in the volatile Middle East, Hopeman soon discovers that his assignment will be anything but easy. Representatives of the Holy Land's three major religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - are all laying claim to the priceless jewel that once adorned the miter of Pope Gregory, and they will do anything to possess it. Partnering with Israeli government agent Tamar Strauss - a beautiful and courageous Yemenite war widow who inspires the visiting American's passion as well as his respect - Hopeman is soon entangled in a web of mystery and intrigue that crosses continents and stretches back thousands of years. As the duo follows the twisting travels of the gem and the bloody conflicts it has ignited throughout its extraordinary past - a history that intertwines with Hopeman's own family saga - the story of a breathtaking land and its people unfolds in all its drama and glory. International best-selling author Noah Gordon - whose acclaimed historical novel The Physician was the inspiration for the major motion picture of the same name starring Ben Kingsley - "has packed a suspense tale with religious, historical and archeological underpinnings, along with fascinating insights into an industry whose conduct is generally shrouded from outside scrutiny" (The Philadelphia Inquirer). 1. Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Economics - Innovation economics, grade: A, BI Norwegian Business School, course: Innovation and Entrepreneurship, language: English, abstract: Innovation lies at the heart of globalisation, whereby to stay relevant in competitive markets and improve economic growth, countries must put in place strong National Innovation Systems (NIS). Thus, the key goal of this paper is to analyse and compare the National Innovation Systems of various countries. Germany, Israel and Norway were chosen as part of this study, particularly because of their strong innovative history, high levels of innovation and the importance of innovation for their future competitiveness. Firstly, an analysis of core primary data provides a brief overview of each country. Subsequently, Porter's Diamond model, and its four factors, helps us evaluate in detail each of the country's NIS. After analysis, each country is methodically discussed using research, results and the Triple Helix Model. Using this, we found Israel has a highly efficient NIS, showing incredible dynamic development in recent years. Germany's NIS was found to be deeply rooted in their economy and Norway's lower levels of GDP and patent applications per capita indicated lower levels of innovation. It is recommended each country focus on maintaining strong NIS to combat future challenges, including the trend of climate change.

Diamond smugglers. A police conspiracy. High tech spies. Assassins intent on derailing Middle East peace talks.  Customs Investigator James Winter must overcome them all if he is to save his career - and his life.  Winter, an ex-MI5 operative, battles to clear his name after being wrongly accused of colluding with diamond smugglers. When suspended, he vows to discover how the smugglers repeatedly avoided the traps set by his team. But as his wife undergoes cancer treatment, he finds it hard to balance time at her bedside with action to vindicate himself.  An email from their high tech equipment supplier soon sets Winter on the trail of a Mossad spy whom he discovered is somehow involved. The chase takes him from the windswept Romney Marsh of Southern England to Helsinki and Finland’s snowy interior and rapidly places him in the path of a Syrian assassination squad.  Al-Jabib ran a gloved fingertip across the engraved skull and crossbones and felt a tingle of anticipation mix with his nerves. It was really happening; he, Bashar Al-Jabib, was about to initiate the most audacious operation in all Syrian history. He touched the locket that hung around his neck. 'Mum and Dad, you’d be proud of me.'  In this fast-paced and suspenseful espionage thriller, James Winter stumbles into an international mystery involving Mossad, a Middle East terror plot to destabilise Israel and the global political climate. With the help of a dubious partner, Winter risks his life, but will he be able to stop an international conspiracy and clear his name? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Simon Darwen. Operator Down: A Pike Logan Thriller , Hörbuch,...

A New York Times Best SellerFormer Special Forces Officer and New York Times best-selling author Brad Taylor delivers a heart-pounding thriller where Pike Logan's search for a Mossad agent and ally puts him on a collision course with a ruthless military coup in Africa - and tests his loyalties to the Taskforce. It was to be a simple mission. Nothing more than assessing whether a merchant in the fabled Israeli Diamond Exchange was involved in a scheme that could potentially embarrass the state of Israel. But nothing is ever simple in the world of intelligence, as Aaron Bergman - a former leader of an elite direct action team under the Mossad - should have known. Executing the operation as a contractor, a cutout that gave the State of Israel plausible deniability, he disappears without a trace. Pike Logan and his team know none of this, but he's tracking an American arms dealer in Tel Aviv who may - or may not - be attempting to sell sensitive nuclear weapons components to the highest bidder. When Pike's team breaks up an attempt at killing Shoshana, Aaron's partner, they stumble upon much more than they expected - a concerted conspiracy to topple a democratic African country. Beginning to untangle a web that extends through both the American and Israeli intelligence community, Pike is forced to choose between his Israeli friends and his Taskforce mission, even as the execution of the coup begins to form. At the heart of it is Aaron, and his disappearance is the one mistake the plotters made. Because Shoshana is the greatest killing machine the Mossad has ever produced, and she will stop at nothing to help Aaron, even if it means killing Pike Logan.  1. Language: English. The Conquest of Canaan, Hörbuch, Digital, 1, 60...

After 40 years in the wilderness the Israelites begin their conquest of Canaan, the land God promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In the book of Joshua the Israelites cross the Jordan River, attacking Jericho—and we watch the walls come tumblin' down! By the end of Joshua the Israelites have subdued most of the "Promised Land" and it is allocated to the 12 tribes—yet, there are still significant pockets of resistance, especially among the Philistines on the coastal plain. Joshua is a book of conquest, and in it we wrestle with the profoundly difficult problem of God commanding the Israelites to "put under the ban" all the conquered people; that is, to kill every man, woman and child among them. If Joshua is a book of conquest, Judges is a book of settlement. In it the Israelites are little more than a loose confederation of 12 tribes, relatively isolated from one another by natural geographical and topographical boundaries, with little—if any—governing structure. In a time of crisis, the tribes coalesce and a leader emerges: a judge. Not a judicial figure, but a military one, a judge deals with the crisis and then—theoretically—returns to his (or her, in the case of Deborah) farm and routine family life. But when people obtain power, they are loath to give it up, and ultimately the judges become exceedingly corrupt. By the end of Judges, we read that in those days "Israel had no king and everyone did that which was right in his own eyes." It was a time of moral, political, economic and religious chaos and depravity. If we stand at the far end of Judges and look back over our shoulders, we see a charred, smoking and bloody landscape. Then suddenly we spot a flash of light, a sparkling diamond in the muck and the mire. When we reach down and pick it up—we find in our hand the book of Ruth. The little book of Ruth—only 4 chapters long—is the greatest love story in the Bible, a story of the love between Ruth and her mother-in-law, N 1. Language: English. Narrator: Dr. Bill Creasy.
